Weizmann UK Launches Making Connections Impact Report

Scientific collaboration is at the heart of modern research. Breakthroughs increasingly emerge not within a single lab or discipline, but through the exchange of ideas across fields, institutions, and cultures.

The Making Connections programme was established in 2008 to support and encourage collaboration, building scientific bridges between researchers at the Weizmann Institute and leading scientists across the UK. It was designed to provide seed funding to enable ambitious early-stage ideas to develop into high-impact, sustained partnerships. Over time, it has grown into a respected and highly effective grant programme, enabling meaningful collaboration through a deliberately light-touch approach.

After nearly 20 years of investment, Weizmann UK commissioned an independent review to assess what the programme has achieved. Our Making Connections Impact Report presents the review's findings, providing clear evidence of the programme’s impact, including high-quality scientific output, new and enduring scientific collaborations between the Weizmann Institute and UK institutions and career-defining opportunities for early career researchers. The report also sets out our flagship programme's future direction with a series of enhancements to strengthen its scale, sustainability and long-term impact.
