Young Weizmann Event 2024: When The Drugs Don't Work

Young Weizmann Event 2024: When The Drugs Don't Work
Dina Hochhauser, Weizmann PhD Student

On Thursday 26 September, we held a special Young Weizmann Event hosted by Dr. Carine Moezinia – When The Drugs Don't Work. Weizmann PhD Student Dina Hochhauser gave an insightful update into her research on phage therapy to combat Antibiotic resistance and spoke about her experience of Weizmann's BINA programmes which support scientists and students to translate their groundbreaking research into practical applications.

It was fascinating to hear her speak about her personal journey which led her to study at the Weizmann Institute of Science and why she chose to stay there to study for her PhD. She spoke about the Institute’s commitment to fostering curiosity driven research and how BINA has propelled her future career in science.

As Dina said, by 2050, without an alternative solution, over 10 million people worldwide will be resistant to antibiotics putting them at risk of life threatening bacterial infections. Medical experts in the room were particularly interested in this topic and discussed the reasons for the increased resistance and how phage therapy can be used as an alternative treatment in the future.

If you would still like to make a donation to BINA click here. Your generosity will help shape the future of scientific discovery.

We thank those that attended and look forward to seeing our friends and supporters at another Weizmann UK event soon.
