Women in Science and The Arts 2025

We are delighted to announce that thanks to the generosity of Weizmann UK supporters, almost £200,000 was raised at our Women in Science lunch on Wednesday 7 May.  This will be a significant boost to the Weizmann Institute’s visionary Women’s Postdoctoral Career Development Award in Science which assists women to progress in their scientific careers.

Guests attended the lunch at the Design Museum which was hosted by Dr. Arabella Duffield, Chair of Weizmann UK and Hayley Sieff, Weizmann UK Trustee.

Distinguished international broadcaster, Tania Bryer OBE expertly hosted proceedings. Our speakers from the worlds of art and science were British artist and sculptor, Annie Morris and pioneering Weizmann cancer researcher, Prof. Ruth Scherz-Shouval who between them really brought to life the successes and challenges women today face in pursuing their careers.

Annie spoke movingly about her inspiration, her creative process and the sanctuary her work has given her during the very hardest times in her life. Ruth enlightened us on her cutting edge research into the cancer microenvironment at the Weizmann Institute.

During an In Conversation with Tania, Ruth spoke about how receiving the Women in Science award early in her career meant so much more than financial assistance because it helped give validation to her scientific work and demonstrated just how dedicated she was to pursuing her studies.

Giving advice to the younger generation of scientists she said, "I tell them that if this is something you really want, you'll find a way to do it."

The funds raised mean that more women will be able to pursue their talent for science by completing their postdoctoral studies abroad and returning to Israel to continue their careers. Learn more about the Weizmann Institute's commitment to Advancing Women in Science.
