Annual Lecture 2024 - Emerging from Trauma
On Tuesday 19 March we held our 2024 Annual Lecture – Emerging from Trauma at the Wellcome Collection. Weizmann President Prof. Alon Chen gave an insightful update on life on campus over the last few challenging months. It was also a timely opportunity to hear details of his own recent research as a neurobiologist into recovery from trauma.
These past months have brought into focus the Weizmann Institute’s mission of science for the future of humanity. Prof. Chen spoke of its dedication to cultivating an environment where science, knowledge and education are the values that will safeguard Israel’s survival.
It was fascinating to hear him speak about science as a source of resilience and to understand how the Institute’s commitment to pursuing its groundbreaking research remains undiminished, particularly in its key flagship areas including:
The Institute for Environmental Sustainability
The Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences
Immunology and Infectious Diseases
He also highlighted some significant recent research breakthroughs
As Alon said, throughout its 90 year history, the Weizmann Institute's extraordinary scientific output had played a major role in the resilience of the State of Israel.
It was encouraging to hear him say, “I am optimistic about the future. Our scientists will continue to go from strength to strength to benefit us all."
