Kupcinet Getz International Summer Science School

Established in 1971, the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer School stands as one of the most prestigious and competitive research programmes for undergraduate students worldwide. Each summer, this flagship programme at the Weizmann School of Science selects exceptional students from around the world who have completed at least one year of university study. Those chosen are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in cutting-edge research across mathematics and computer science, physics, chemistry, and the life sciences. 

Over eight weeks, participants engage in bespoke cutting-edge research projects tailored by the heads of their chosen research groups, working alongside leading scientists in state-of-the-art laboratories. The programme goes far beyond traditional study, embodying real-world scientific exploration that allows students to dive deep into the intricacies of modern research. Previous participants have contributed to cutting-edge research, including developing targeted therapies in cancer biology, using plant cells to produce valuable proteins more efficiently and sustainably, designing eco-friendly technologies to reduce emissions, and creating new materials for energy storage and conversion. . Students attend engaging lectures, participate in workshops, and present their research findings at symposia, gaining skills to strengthen their scientific portfolios.

There are no fees to attend the programme, and students receive a stipend, travel subsidy and free accommodation for the duration of the programme. Beyond the campus, students enjoy excursions to major Israeli landmarks and cultural sites such as the Dead Sea and Masada.

Since its inception, the Kupcinet-Getz programme has cultivated a global community of over 1,100 alumni who have gone on to pursue distinguished research careers across academia, industry, and research institutions worldwide. Many alumni regard this experience as a pivotal step in their scientific careers.
